Megan Lay was born in California, but has lived most of her life in Utah with her parents and younger brother. She is currently still living in Utah with her husband, daughter, and their cat, Sushi. They love to travel and have been to 12 different countries in the past 5 years.
Megan grew up with a wild imagination and never had a shortage of great stories. She was always writing short stories and even wrote movie scripts so she could create short films with her friends and cousins. She has done many things over the years that has kept her love for great stories alive. She draws a great deal of her inspiration from her dreams which are vivid and lifelike. Megan is gifted in the art of live storytelling. She is particularly fond of ghost stories, including several spooky encounters she has experienced herself. She has performed at several events, terrifying listeners with her creepy tales.
Megan has always wanted to be a storyteller and travelled many paths to find the best way to share her stories. In college, she switched majors over five times, going from graphic designer to videographer and finally settling on elementary education. She believes that kids are the most important people to inspire with great stories.
After being an educator for a few years, Megan had her first daughter and decided to stay home and focus on raising her full-time. During this time she came across some pirate illustrations which was the push that inspired her to write the Pirate Series. Megan has always had a love for pirate adventures. Many of the short stories she wrote as a child were pirate themed. And those movies with her friends and cousins...yeah, most of them were pirate movies.
In 2018 Megan started to map out the book series and outline the first book. She created dozens of diverse characters and a complex world for them to live in. All while being a full time mom, taking care of her daughter. After hearing about NaNoWriMo from a friend she decided to take the opportunity to write the full first draft. She is actively working towards the publishing and launch of the first book while also continuing the saga by writing the second book.
